The Journey of the Soul by David Furlong

Whilst the belief in the immortality of the soul has ancient origins it is modern research in the fields of hypnotism and channelling that have provided the most detailed account our spiritual evolutionary journey. Whilst looking for the origin of a particular trauma, within a hypnotherapeutic session, therapists have found their client going back to a ‘remembered’ previous existence from a former life. The release of the emotional charge from this ‘memory’ has generally resulted in the relieving of the present symptoms or phobias. It is possible that the psyche is simply using a past-life as a metaphor for relieving some internal psychological pressure but the veracity of a previous existence seems a more plausible explanation.

In his two books Journey of Souls and Destiny of Souls Michael Newton presents detailed research accounts from hundreds of clients that had been deeply regressed to recall their experiences between lives. From these accounts it seems clear that the soul has the opportunity to both review their current life before deciding again on which body to incarnate into as part of a new cycle of incarnation. Some of Newton’s clients were able to recall being present when newly created spirits first emerged a seeds of unique consciousness. One necessary fundamental to this process is that all spirits possess ‘free-will’ and no spirit is forced to incarnate against their choice. Some choose to take on difficult challenges in order to expiate past misdemeanours or to grow spiritually.

Supporting the therapeutic discoveries are the channelled communications from a number of spiritual guides that have given explanations of the spiritual journey as they have come to perceive or understand it. There are two factors involved here that require some explanation for the discrepancies between these communications. For example, in the first case many spiritualists do not accept, or even positively reject, any notion of reincarnation. It may well be that because the communications are generally to recent deceased souls, such as parents or grandparents, the soul in question had not yet opened up to the possibility of a new life or a memory of any previous lives. Accounts suggest that newly arrived souls spend quite a bit of time adjusting to their new situation before considering again coming back into a new body. Their pre-occupation with their incarnate loved ones may well preclude the recollection of any past-lives. Secondly, Newton suggests that souls or spirits evolve and the greater the evolution the easier it becomes to remember previous existences.

A number of these ‘higher’ guides, such as White Eagle from the White Eagle Lodge, have come forward in recent times to communicate their messages, through willing mediums, to channel their teachings on the spiritual journey that all spirits undergo, only a small part of which is within the physical domain. Human souls eventually reach a point when they no longer need to incarnate and then go on experiencing in the higher spiritual planes, thereby adding to the accumulating consciousness of the universe. The intention ultimately is to reach a level of awareness where the spirit can join the ‘God-Head’ level of consciousness, which might be described as an Ultimate or Perfected state of awareness. Therefore, instead of seeing just one Creator, the suggestion is that this level of consciousness contains innumerable Perfected Beings, working together in complete harmony.

It is generally perceived that physical incarnation occurs at an early stage of human spiritual experience. However, higher beings can incarnate, such as the Buddha, Christ and Mohammed, when there is a particular need to bring forward a specific teaching. It should be appreciated that these beings do not necessary incarnate as spiritual teachers but could be musicians, like Mozart, artists, like as Leonardo da Vinci, or even war leaders such as Winston Churchill. It is also clear that some souls take on specific spiritual challenges during their lifetime that may, or may not, have been associated to a specific karma. For example, if a soul decides that it wishes to learn about ‘forgiveness’ there is little point for it incarnate into a warm loving supportive family. Such a soul may choose a family and parents that create a lot of difficulties for it so that it has to dig deep in order to learn how to be loving and forgiving.

Because of the ‘free-will’ gift the incarnation of each soul is a unique gift and no two souls ever go through identical experiences. Your particular journey no matter how challenging or easy arose from your free-will choices, either in the spirit world or within your current life. It is down to you to make the most of it.
